HP Fanfic Fan Poll Nomination

The nominations have closed, and the voting is open, in the HP Fanfic Fan Poll Awards.

There are many categories, each with subcategories, so go over and check out the fics that other fans have nominated as their faves.

I’m really pleased that a couple of my fics are in the “Legacy” subcategories for a couple categories — Resolving a Misunderstanding and Death’s Dominion, for Minerva x Anyone and Gen, respectively. And they’re in very good company — in fact, my most recent fic rec, “Gin a Body Meet a Body,” is there with RaM. :-)

We will die with that hope in our hearts, if we must, but today, we shall live in it. Even should he win the day, that pathetic little toe-rag who fancies himself a lord of wizards, even then, we will know that it will not last. Hope will shine before us always, an eternal star that urges us forward even as we pass through the valley of despair. So proceed with hope, Severus, not only with regret and recriminations, no matter where it leads you, even if it leads you into darkness and death. Hope will be there. New Fanfic Rec: “Gin a Body Meet a Body” by Squibstress

I’m adding a new recommendation to my fanfic recs page. This one features Minerva McGonagall and Severus Snape, who are facing a difficult Year 7 with Death Eaters in the school, Voldemort gaining power in the wizarding world, and open battle looming in the future. But they also have some ordinary Hogwarts business to take care of—and in the shadow of the Dark Lord, which presents some potential problems—and some personal issues between them, including the killing of Albus Dumbledore the previous spring.

I really enjoyed “Gin a Body Meet a Body.” There was tension, doubt, empathy, and tenderness, all beautifully played out without any false notes or over-writing. Both Minerva and Severus remained in character. Severus was of the sort of in-character interpretation that I prefer, rather than as relatively flat as he sometimes appears even in canon, where we are so often tantalized with a rich array possibilities for his character, his personality—his soul, as it were—which then dissolve into just a few single notes. Squibstress takes those possibilities and creates a rich character.

If you’ve never considered a Minerva/Severus fic, but are open to try one, I’d definitely recommend this. If you already enjoy the pairing, I’d say this is a “must-read.”

A Holiday with the Headmaster bannerWith the final update to Resolving a Misunderstanding, all of my completed stories are now available on An Archive of Our Own, including the first novella in the “Stray” series, which is being posted as a single, chaptered fic on the Petulant Poetess.

I am considering beginning to upload my works-in-progress, likely beginning with Charming the Scottish Garden. However, since I want to make more progress on my works-in-progress, I am not going to do that for a while yet.

My hands are beginning to get better, and I can now type for more than a few paragraphs at a time without pain, so I’m hopeful that the next update of A Long Vernal Season will be forthcoming in the next week or so!
