I had anticipated at least 20 respondents, and hoped for 30; 25 folks participated, so that was great. I appreciate it! It was fun to see the results — and occasionally, a bit surprising. Hmm, some very interesting results here. I’m glad to see that the ADMM pairing isn’t considered rare. That did my little heart some good. I can’t wait to see what happens in part two of the poll and the other pairings suggested by other responders!!!
I actually was a bit surprised that so many people don’t consider ADMM rare, since I have trouble finding fics with them — particularly lately, and especially on TPP. But I do think that where a person goes for their fanfic has a lot to do with their impression of who’s rare & who’s not. I was surprised that anyone at all would consider SSHG rare — it seems like they’re extremely popular, with a LOT of authors and a huge and enthusiastic fanbase. But I suppose that if you hang out somewhere that doesn’t have many SSHG fics posted, you might have a different sense of things. Which is why I wanted to do the poll — so I could find some pairs that are more commonly perceived as being rare, not just those that I think are.
The results are certainly interesting!
Most of the canon pairings (i.e, Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione) aren’t hard to find, which doesn’t surprise me (the same goes for popular ‘ships like Draco/Hermione and Hermione/Severus), but I’m startled by the relative infrequency of Maxime/Hagrid and Neville/Luna fics.
All in all, I’m interested to see what are considered easy-to-find pairings, and am eager to see what part two involves. 🙂
One canon pairing that I thought for sure would be “rare” for at least a small majority of people was Arthur/Molly — I can’t say I run across a lot of Arthur/Molly fics, but on the other hand, I haven’t really looked for them, either!
I’ve always been rather fond of Neville/Luna, but I don’t think they’re terribly common.
