The mobi format is readable on a number of devices and by the Mobipocket Reader, and is one of the formats (when unencrypted) accepted by the Kindle and Kindle reading apps.
BTW, I bought a Kindle and received it at the end of last week. I really like it! There’s nothing like a bound book, but the Kindle has many advantages, especially for folks who travel or commute and want to have more than one book with them.
I will likely review the Kindle at some point soon.
