Aside

I just learned of a new-to-me primarily Snape-centric community, One Bad Man. The comm does occasionally highlight another Bad Man (such as Lucius Malfoy), but Snape’s the main focus. I learned about them after kellychambliss kindly rec’d my Snape & … Continue reading

New Round of Nominations for the HP Fanfic Fan Poll Awards

With crisp autumn nights (well, in some places, anyway!) comes the next round of the HP Fanfic Fan Poll Awards.

Don’t know if I’ll have anything to nominate this round, but I’ll look through the categories, some of my favorite fics, and then see whether the fic has already been nominated in a previous round. (Only in the Legacy subcategory for each category can a previously nominated story be renominated.)

In any case, I thought I’d pass this on — if you love a fic, nominate it! Even if it doesn’t “win,” it’s great for other readers to find new stories that others recommend so highly, and it’s very nice for the authors, as well.

Fest Fic Author Reveals

The HP Friendship Fest has revealed the authors for this year’s stories. There were twenty-four stories with a wide variety of friends and friendships. I really recommend hopping over and taking a look at them all.

Among those I enjoyed, I particularly liked “Before Peace,” which was written by Primeideal. I’ve already posted about that one and rec’d it on my recs page. Characters: Dumbledore’s Army, particularly Ravenclaws.

Other fics that I enjoyed and plan to add to my recs page were, in no particular order:

“Sybill Trelawney and the Unexpected Gift” by Squibstress
Characters: Sybill Trelawney & Minerva McGonagall. (This one was written to a prompt I submitted.)

“Take to the Heather” by wemyss
Characters: Ernie, Justin, Hannah, Snape, Neville, Blaise.

“Five Times a Conversation Between Professors Lupin and McGonagall Ended in Thanks and One Time …” by realmer06
Characters: Remus Lupin & Minerva McGonagall.

“Lift Your Glasses High” by kellychambliss
Characters: Minerva McGonagall & Aberforth Dumbledore.

You may notice that a few of these have Minerva in them — not much of a surprise, since she’s my favorite canon character. But to my own surprise, two of my favorite fics focussed on primarily on student characters, and I don’t usually gravitate toward fics about the HP students. I’m certainly glad that I glanced at them and decided to give them a read!

I also wrote a fic for the Friendship Fest: “Not Entirely Tedious”, featuring Minerva McGonagall and Severus Snape, with brief appearances by Albus Dumbledore, Filius Flitwick, and Pomona Sprout. I plan to post it to AO3, my blog, and elsewhere sometime in the next week or so. In the meantime, if you don’t want to wait, hop over and read it on the HP Friendship Fest Community, and while you’re there, do check out some of the other fics — there are a couple dozen to sample!

HP Friendship Fest 2013 Complete

All of the stories for the HP Friendship Fic Fest have been posted now. The author reveal will be in about a week. In the meantime, hop over to the site and peruse the fics.

Here’s the master list of stories, including week four.

I’ll be adding a few more of these fics to my rec list.

Third week of the HP Friendship Fest

The fourth week of the HP Friendship Fest has already begun, but you can find the weekly round-up of fics from the third week over on the Fest site.

Last week’s fics had two that I particularly enjoyed: “Sybill Trelawney and the Unexpected Gift” and “Before Peace”. (“Sybill Trelawney and the Unexpected Gift” was written in response to a prompt that I left.)

I have added “Before Peace” to my recommendations page, and I plan to add a few more fics from the Fest, as well.

As I’ve mentioned before, the Fest is quite eclectic, and there’s something for just about anyone’s tastes, I think, so check out the fics. They’re perfect for short late-summer reads.
